Children & Eating

  • Family Style

Why should you serve lunch in family style? Children are born intuitive eaters and a family style meal setting aims to nurture this natural ability. Children know when they are hungry and when they are full.  Allowing them to control what and how much they eat during a “family style” setting encourages them be the expert on their own body.

  • Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Children who skip breakfast are unable to concentrate or adequately participate in the school day. Whole grains, fruit and calcium-rich foods like low fat milk or yogurt are recommended for growing children.

  • Whole Grains

Scientific-evidence is clear that whole grains reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes and obesity. Recent numbers by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that one in three children are overweight or obese. Including whole grains in your child’s diet will also keep a well-rounded diet in their lives.

  • Protein

Protein in foods such as pizza, chicken and meatballs is essential for your child’s development and muscle strength. What are muscles made from? Protein. Believe it or not, pizza is an excellent food for children – packing in about 15 grams per slice!

  • Calories

About 40 percent of a child’s daily calories are consumed while at school. All the more reason why it’s really important that you allow us to help you make sure these calories are nutritious and balanced.
